Early years – Humphries School of Motoring
Way back in the 1980’s Sid Humphries set up his own independent driving school – Humphries School of Motoring. Sid had a simple formula for success which meant that he enjoyed an extraordinarily high pass rate for the learner driving test. Consequently, he was inundated with work.
After a couple of years of successful trading in the Exmouth and Otterton areas, he invited his brother, Cliff, to join him and the two brothers continued to operate using Sid’s formula with great success, expanding their catchment area to include Exeter.
Gabi Humphries – 1993-2003
In 1993 the baton was passed to Gabi, Cliff’s wife, who brought her own personality and talents into the mix, and developed the school to include other strands of driver training – from learner to advanced, minibus to Driver Improvement courses (in association with Devon Drivers Centre), and supporting people back into driving following traumatic incidents on the road (in association with Road User Support Service – RUSS).
With an emphasis on client centred tuition, confidence building, and safe driving principles embedded in the training course, and particular attention to test preparation at the end of the course, Humphries School of Motoring went from strength to strength. Gabi enjoyed an excellent reputation at the test centre, for presenting candidates that were ready for the driving test, and more importantly ready to drive independently thereafter. In her final year of instructing before becoming an examiner, her driving test pass rate was well over double the national average, at 96% for first time passes.
Driving Dynamix – 2018 onwards
Driving Dynamix was born when Gabi returned to teaching in November 2018, after a fifteen-year hiatus working as a driving examiner for the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency DVSA (formerly DSA). The name, Driving Dynamix, reflects our commitment to positive and supportive tuition, where the client’s learning goals are at the heart of what we do. In the early days, driving tuition was traditionally quite formulaic, following a fairly rigid curriculum. Whilst we follow closely the National Standards for Driver and Rider Training, Driving Dynamix is all about modern ways of teaching, with an emphasis on enabling the learner to find their own way to independence, and thereby building lasting confidence that will take the client through the driving test and beyond to drive by themselves.
Her years as a driving examiner have enabled Gabi to offer a unique insight into the driving test, demystifying it and preparing pupils to an extraordinarily high standard. This feature is available to all the school’s customers and means that Driving Dynamix pupils take their tests with all the skills and understanding of how to pass it!
During her time with the DVSA, Gabi delivered all types of driving tests. For many years she was assigned to the ADI part 2 & 3 instructor qualifying tests. Following Alyx’s successful passing of her qualifying ADI tests at the first attempt, we are now expanding our services to include instructor training. Using a tried and tested training system devised by Phil Hurst, a long-standing instructor trainer in the north of England, Gabi is now delighted to offer training to those who may wish to change their career, and possibly to join the Driving Dynamix team*. We believe we have something very special here at Driving Dynamix and at this unprecedented time in the industry, good driving instruction is needed more than ever before. Please get in touch to find out if we can help you with this.
